PDP says APC must manage Wike after the ruling party raised objections over the conduct of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting any political fallout in Rivers State is the APC’s responsibility.
The party’s stance was outlined on Tuesday in Abuja by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following a public spat between Wike and APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. Ememobong emphasized that Wike is no longer a PDP member and accused the APC of willingly engaging him for political gain.
“The law does not allow you to benefit from a wrong you created, nor can you complain of a voluntary injury. APC must now manage the situation they created. What was once an asset has become a liability,” Ememobong said.
He noted that the same actions now criticized were previously welcomed by the APC when they served its interests. “When he was acting in a way that favored the APC, they were jubilating. They did not complain once. Now that it has become problematic, they are crying foul,” he added.
The PDP spokesman rejected attempts to drag the party into the dispute, stressing that Wike’s conduct no longer concerns them. Ememobong warned that political alignment carries responsibility, and the fallout from benefiting from Wike’s influence rests entirely with the APC.
“What the APC is experiencing is a voluntary injury they inflicted on themselves. After all, the benefits of this nuisance accrued to them. This is what happens when you keep feeding a monster — one day you become food in its belly,” he said, using a vivid metaphor to underscore the point.
Ememobong concluded that any criticism of Wike by the APC lacks moral or legal grounding and that the ruling party must handle the consequences of engaging him without attempting to involve the PDP.
