The Wike PDP faction National Convention is set for Abuja on March 28-29, 2026, the Nyesom Wike-aligned group announced after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at Life Camp, Abuja. The convention aims to elect members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party.
The communique, signed by National Caretaker Working Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Muhammed and Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, also confirmed a revised schedule for party congresses nationwide. Ward and local government congresses will hold in February, followed by zonal and state congresses in March. Detailed guidelines for the exercises will be issued by the National Caretaker Committee to ensure compliance with the PDP constitution, INEC regulations, and judicial directives.
The NEC reiterated that the Caretaker Committee remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party until the convention is held. It extended the tenure of all affected state and zonal caretaker committees, while mandating immediate activation of convention sub-committees and full logistical preparations for a transparent and credible convention. Party members were urged to stay united, disciplined, and loyal, putting the party’s collective interest above personal ambitions.
Hosting the NEC meeting at his residence, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike expressed concern for the party’s survival and stability nationwide, particularly highlighting the ongoing challenges in Oyo State PDP. “Let me declare my interest clearly: I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in all the happenings in Oyo State PDP. That is all I am interested in,” Wike said.
He dismissed claims that party members could be intimidated or coerced, stressing that legal battles had been resolved in favour of the Caretaker Committee. Wike also encouraged members to focus on grassroots mobilisation, rejecting the notion that a political party’s relevance depends solely on having sitting governors. “Some people believe that if you do not have a sitting governor, then you are nothing. Who told them that? I was not a governor when I became governor,” he said.
The upcoming convention marks a critical step for the Wike-aligned PDP faction as it seeks to consolidate leadership, strengthen party structures, and prepare for future electoral contests across Nigeria.
