US to deport Nigerian authorities confirmed on Monday as United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced it is holding a Nigerian national over a string of violent crimes. The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Tunde Ijaoba, is currently in ICE custody following a final removal order.
ICE disclosed the development in a post shared on its official X account, describing Ijaoba as a criminal illegal alien with an extensive history of serious offences committed in the United States. The agency said deportation proceedings are now at the final stage.
According to ICE, Ijaoba entered the United States illegally and later became involved in violent criminal activity. Investigators identified him as a former member of the Bloods, a street gang widely linked to armed violence, drug trafficking, and organised crime.
The agency detailed a long list of convictions that led to the removal order. These include aggravated assault on a police officer involving a firearm, assault and aggravated assault, armed robbery, obstruction of law enforcement, drug sales, and escape from police custody.
ICE said the severity and frequency of the offences formed the legal basis for his deportation. Officials stressed that his criminal record posed a significant public safety risk, prompting decisive enforcement action.
“He has a final removal order and awaits deportation in ICE custody,” the agency stated, confirming that no further legal barriers remain to prevent his removal from the country.
The Bloods gang, founded in Los Angeles, is regarded as one of the most violent street gangs in the United States. Law enforcement agencies have long associated the group with shootings, robberies, and narcotics distribution across multiple states.
ICE said the case highlights its ongoing efforts to identify, detain, and remove non-citizens involved in violent crime. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising public safety and enforcing immigration laws against individuals with serious criminal records.
No timeline was provided for when Ijaoba will be deported, but officials confirmed that preparations are underway to complete the process in line with US immigration procedures.
