Northwest security offensive operations have delivered major gains as troops neutralised terrorists and rescued 62 abducted victims during coordinated actions in Kebbi and Zamfara states. The Joint Task Force, North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the successes as part of renewed efforts to stabilise the region.
In Kebbi State, troops attached to Sector 2 acted on credible intelligence to ambush members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near Augie Local Government Area, close to the Kebbi–Sokoto border. The operation was carried out at Kerani Village, a strategic route frequently used by criminal networks to move men and supplies.
Security sources said the troops engaged the terrorists in a swift encounter that led to the neutralisation of two fighters. Two motorcycles were also recovered at the scene. The motorcycles were reportedly fitted with long-range accessories, suggesting they were used for sustained movement across difficult terrain and possible cross-border operations.
The Kebbi operation was conducted with support from other security agencies and local vigilante groups. Officials said the collaboration reflects growing coordination between military forces and community-based security structures in tackling terrorism and banditry across the North West.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, identified as a hideout of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Alti. Intelligence reports had indicated that dozens of kidnapped victims were being held in the area, prompting a targeted assault.
The operation resulted in the rescue of 62 hostages, including men, women, and children. Military authorities said the victims are currently in safe custody and undergoing profiling, medical checks, and psychological support. Arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families once the process is completed.
The latest successes underscore sustained pressure by Operation FANSAN YAMMA on terrorist and bandit networks operating in rural communities. Military officials said the goal remains the dismantling of criminal strongholds, the protection of vulnerable populations, and the restoration of public confidence in affected areas.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to working with security agencies, local leaders, and residents. Citizens were urged to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing northwest security offensive operations nationwide.
