Southeast 2027 election politics is already taking shape as Minister of Works, David Umahi, declared that the region will not repeat what he described as the “mistake” of sentiment-driven voting in 2023. He said the Southeast will vote massively for President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru in the next general election.
Umahi made the statement on Tuesday at his country home in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while receiving political leaders, religious figures, and community groups who paid him a Christmas visit.
The former Ebonyi governor said the Igbo must abandon emotional politics and embrace strategy, unity, and constructive engagement to protect regional interests. According to him, voting based on sentiment has not delivered results for the Southeast in the past.
Umahi insisted that President Tinubu has shown clear commitment to the region through visible infrastructure projects. He challenged critics to assess performance based on tangible development rather than online narratives.
He listed major federal projects across the Southeast, including the Second Niger Bridge, the Enugu–Onitsha (Nnewi) Road, and the Owerri–Aba Road. Umahi described these projects as proof of inclusion, calling them the “real Biafra” the people should prioritize.
“The road to Onitsha is Biafra. The Second Niger Bridge is Biafra,” he said, dismissing what he called emotional and social media-driven agitation.
Umahi warned that Nigeria’s stability depends on cooperation among its regions, stressing that weakening any part of the country weakens the whole. While acknowledging historical marginalisation of the Southeast, he argued that progress can only come through political wisdom and national engagement.
He urged Igbo people living across Nigeria to obey local laws, respect host communities, and remain law-abiding while standing firm against intimidation.
According to Umahi, the Southeast is now better positioned at the federal level and must respond strategically. He concluded that votes in 2027 will no longer be driven by sentiment, declaring that the region will overwhelmingly support President Tinubu.
