The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint airstrike by Nigerian forces and the United States hit identified terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no civilian casualties reported. The operation was carried out earlier this week as part of intensified counter-terrorism efforts in the North-West.
The confirmation was issued on Friday in a statement signed by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Sokoto. He said the strike was conducted on Wednesday and targeted known terrorist and bandit enclaves operating within the state and along border communities.
According to the statement, the full impact of the operation is still being assessed, as reports from joint military units are yet to be concluded. Authorities said the strike formed part of a broader campaign to weaken armed groups responsible for insecurity across the region.
The state government also addressed public concern over suspicious objects reportedly found near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area. It clarified that investigations are ongoing and that detailed findings from Nigerian and US military analysts are still awaited.
Bawa stressed that no civilians were harmed in either Tangaza or Jabo communities, dismissing fears of collateral damage from the operation. He said resident safety remains the top priority of all ongoing security actions.
The Sokoto government welcomed the collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, describing it as a necessary step in tackling terrorism and cross-border crimes threatening the state. It reaffirmed its openness to international partnerships aimed at restoring peace.
The statement also highlighted the state’s continued support for security agencies, noting that over the past two years, the government has provided equipment and operational assistance to strengthen local security capacity.
Residents of affected areas were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security forces, and share credible intelligence. The government also appealed for public support and prayers as military operations continue across the North-West.
