Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the Labour Party (LP) and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) are joining forces to pilot a new strategy aimed at consolidating votes and boosting electoral wins. The two parties plan to host a conference on collaborative campaigns, voter education, and consensus candidate adoption.
The partnership, dubbed the Ballot Alliance for Good Governance (BAFOGG), will first be tested during the Federal Capital Territory council elections on February 21, 2026, and later in the Osun governorship election set for August 8, 2026. Acting LP Publicity Secretary Toni Akeni described the initiative as “the first of its kind in our country’s democratic history,” emphasizing that participating parties retain their identities while agreeing to back the candidate with the strongest support.
Akeni explained that the alliance prevents vote splitting among smaller parties, allowing them to collectively campaign for the most viable candidate. On election day, members jointly protect votes and ensure results reflect the electorate’s choice.
ADP Youth Leader Hon. Chinazam Ike highlighted the pivotal role of young voters. “If Nigeria’s youths key into the benefits of the Ballot Alliance, good governance will be achieved faster, and sustainable democratic dividends will become widespread,” he said.
The initiative marks a bold step toward collaboration in Nigeria’s multi-party system, aiming to strengthen grassroots democracy and promote effective governance.
