Funke Akindele has once again proven her unrivalled box-office appeal as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, stormed past the ₦500 million mark in just one week, officially becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025.
The film’s remarkable run has rewritten the record books, with distributor FilmOne Entertainment confirming that the movie earned ₦512 million within seven days of release. The milestone places Akindele firmly at the centre of Nollywood’s commercial success story and reinforces her status as one of the industry’s most bankable filmmakers.
According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes shattered five opening-weekend records, making it the fastest Nollywood title this year to cross the ₦500 million threshold. The distributor credited massive audience turnout across cinemas in Nigeria and West Africa for the historic performance.
In a celebratory message, FilmOne described the feat as a landmark moment for the industry, thanking moviegoers for “showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love.” The statement highlighted the film’s dominance, noting that it ranked as the number-one movie of the weekend while setting a new benchmark for speed and scale at the box office.
The success did not come by chance. Behind The Scenes benefited from carefully planned advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11, which generated strong early buzz ahead of its nationwide release on December 12. The strategy helped build anticipation and translate early excitement into ticket sales once the film officially hit cinemas.
The movie also boasts a star-studded cast that has drawn fans in large numbers. Performances from Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana have added to the film’s appeal, attracting diverse audiences and driving repeat viewings.
Akindele’s latest triumph follows a string of box-office successes that have defined her career in recent years. Her previous release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, had earlier set the record for Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend, overtaking her own film, A Tribe Called Judah, which debuted with ₦113 million.
Everybody Loves Jenifa went on to become Nollywood’s highest-grossing film of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria alone, with additional revenue from international markets. That historic run raised expectations for Akindele’s next project, expectations that Behind The Scenes has now exceeded in record time.
With cinemas still reporting strong attendance, industry watchers believe the film’s box-office numbers could climb even higher in the coming weeks. For Nollywood, the achievement signals growing audience confidence, while for Funke Akindele, it is yet another confirmation that her name remains synonymous with commercial success.
