Bayelsa APC 2027 preparations formally began on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State held its first-ever stakeholders’ meeting and unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. The gathering, held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, signalled a push for unity and consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting brought together top party leaders, elected officials, and political appointees, marking a major milestone since Governor Douye Diri joined the APC in October 2025. A motion endorsing Tinubu’s re-election bid was moved by Senator Konbowei Benson, who represents Bayelsa Central, and seconded by former Deputy Governor Peremobowei Ebebi. The endorsement was adopted without opposition.
Governor Diri described the meeting as a strong statement of cohesion and urged party members to put collective interests above personal ambition. He called on aspirants for elective offices to suspend campaigns and focus on strengthening the party ahead of 2027. According to him, political parties exist to drive development and stability, not internal rivalry.
Several stakeholders praised Diri’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and unifying. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said the governor’s approach had helped heal divisions and reposition the party for electoral success. Similar sentiments were echoed by Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, former APC governorship candidate David Lyon, and other party leaders.
The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in Bayelsa, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, said the stakeholders’ meeting was crucial to rebuilding the party after years of internal fragmentation. He stressed the importance of the ongoing electronic membership registration to ensure credible party records and voter mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The meeting also took a solemn turn as members observed a minute of silence in honour of former Senator John Brambaifa, who represented Bayelsa West in the Fifth National Assembly and died on January 3, 2026.
With the endorsement secured and party unity on display, Bayelsa APC 2027 planning is now firmly underway as leaders shift focus toward grassroots mobilisation and national victory.
