President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered committee to tackle internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election. The move signals an early push to stabilise the ruling party and prevent factional crises.
The Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation was unveiled by the President, drawing members from across the party’s power structure. It includes serving governors, cabinet members and influential party stakeholders tasked with managing tensions and strengthening cohesion.
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was named chairman of the committee, while former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as secretary. The panel also features senior figures such as Senator Adamu Aliero and multiple state governors representing key geopolitical zones.
Among the members are Governors Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, who chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and Governors Hyacinth Alia, Umar Namadi, Bassey Otu, Abiodun Oyebanji and Sheriff Oborevwori. Others include Governors Uba Sani and Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking at the inauguration, Buni thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee. He pledged that members would approach the assignment with discipline and fairness, focusing on dialogue, inclusion and long-term stability.
He said the committee would engage party stakeholders nationwide, design proactive conflict-resolution mechanisms and ensure aggrieved members feel heard and accommodated. He warned against allowing personal interests to override the collective goal of party unity.
The committee’s formation follows Tinubu’s strong message at the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on December 19. The President stressed that unity, tolerance and internal democracy are essential for the party’s survival.
Tinubu reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals and broad participation, urging them to remain accommodating to differing views to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
