Super Eagles AFCON 2025 bonuses are officially approved, with payments already underway, the National Sports Commission has confirmed. Chairman Shehu Dikko said all player and official entitlements are now resolved, quelling earlier reports of potential training boycotts ahead of Saturday’s clash with Algeria.
Dikko told NAN that President Bola Tinubu cleared the team’s AFCON budget in November 2025, ensuring smooth coordination between the NSC, Nigeria Football Federation, and the players. “The president approved the entire AFCON budget on November 14, 2025. From our end, the funding has been fully cleared,” he said.
He stressed that while approval and processing differ, players have been assured the funds are secured. “Approving the money is one thing, processing it is another, but the players know the funds have been approved,” Dikko added.
Meetings were held with senior players, including the captain and co-captain, to finalize bonuses. “We sat down, negotiated, and agreed on what the players are entitled to up to the final. Everybody is clear,” he said. Daily allowances, the only cash requested, have already been paid. Match bonuses are approved and currently being processed, with the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of Nigeria working to ensure timely release.
On the pitch, Nigeria has been unstoppable, winning all matches and scoring 12 goals en route to the quarter-finals. The Super Eagles are set to face Algeria’s Desert Foxes for a semi-final spot, departing Fès for Marrakech on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s 5 p.m. kickoff at the Stade de Marrakech.
With bonuses secured and a strong tournament run, the Super Eagles are geared up both on and off the field for the crucial showdown.
