Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the sudden deaths of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, who passed away on the same day. The governor described the development as a devastating blow to the state, its legislature, and the affected communities.
The deceased lawmakers are Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Local Government Area, and Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, the representative of Ungoggo Local Government Area. Their near-simultaneous deaths, according to the governor, marked a dark and painful moment in Kano’s political history.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said the tragedy plunged the government and people of Kano into collective mourning. He noted that losing two vibrant legislators within hours was a heartbreaking experience that words could barely capture.
The governor described both lawmakers as committed public servants who dedicated their lives to lawmaking and grassroots representation. He said they were loyal party men and dependable voices for their constituents, whose passion for public service remained evident until their final moments.
Yusuf stated that Kano has lost two sons whose contributions to governance and community development would be sorely missed. He added that their deaths have left a painful vacuum in the State House of Assembly and in Kano Municipal and Ungoggo communities.
The governor extended his condolences to the families of the deceased lawmakers, members and leadership of the Kano State House of Assembly, and residents of the affected local government areas. He said the entire state shares in their grief during this difficult period.
Praying for the departed, Yusuf asked Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give their families and the people of Kano the strength to bear the loss. He urged residents to remain calm, united, and prayerful, describing the tragedy as a test of faith and collective resilience.
Hon. Aminu Sa’adu has since been laid to rest at the Ungoggo cemetery. Funeral prayers for Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji are scheduled to hold at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Emir’s Palace mosque.
