Funke Akindele’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ has smashed records at the West African box office, raking in over N1.1 billion just 17 days after its release. The film is now the fastest Nollywood title to surpass the billion-naira milestone.
The feat marks yet another historic achievement for Akindele, who becomes the only filmmaker to surpass N1 billion three times and the first to deliver three consecutive N1 billion+ hits in a single calendar year. Boxing Day also saw the highest single-day gross of N129.5 million.
FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, confirmed the figures, celebrating the milestone on social media and thanking fans for “showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love.”
Directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, the 2-hour 24-minute drama features a star-studded cast including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Ibrahim Chatta, Ini Dima-Okojie, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, and Victoria Adeleye. The film tells the story of Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur whose generosity forces her to confront personal boundaries and the limits of responsibility.
Akindele revealed that production costs exceeded N1 billion, highlighting the scale of investment and the pressure on filmmakers to achieve strong box office results amid inflation and shifting consumer spending.
The movie’s nationwide release followed advanced screenings on December 10 and 11, and the opening week generated over N500 million, marking the strongest frame for any Nollywood film in 2025. Fans were urged not to record or share clips in cinemas to protect the theatrical experience.
With its record-breaking performance, ‘Behind the Scenes’ is now 2025’s highest-grossing Nollywood release to date and cements Funke Akindele’s position as the industry’s top-grossing producer of all time.
