Nigeria has finished the 2025 football calendar year ranked 38th in the FIFA men’s world rankings, maintaining the same position held in the previous update. The latest rankings were released on Monday, confirming no movement for the Super Eagles. The stability reflects a quiet international window with no competitive fixtures played.
With no matches since the November ranking, Nigeria retained its total of 1,502 FIFA points. The Super Eagles also remained fifth on the African continent, trailing four North African and West African rivals who continue to dominate the regional standings.
Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked nation, sitting 11th globally and firmly established among the world’s elite. Senegal follows as the continent’s second-best side in 19th place. Algeria and Egypt occupy the 34th and 35th global positions respectively, keeping Nigeria just outside Africa’s top four.
Behind Nigeria, Tunisia ranks 41st in the world, while reigning African champions Côte d’Ivoire are placed 42nd. Mali sits 53rd globally, with DR Congo and Cameroon ranked 56th and 57th respectively, completing Africa’s top ten teams.
On the global stage, Spain continues to lead the FIFA rankings after reclaiming the top spot from Argentina earlier in the year. France remains third, completing the podium. The rest of the top ten remains unchanged, with England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia holding their previous positions.
For Nigeria, the unchanged ranking underscores a year of mixed performances and missed opportunities to climb higher. With major international competitions and qualifiers looming in 2026, the Super Eagles will be aiming for improved results to boost their global standing and reclaim a place among Africa’s top four.
